Panama offers a unique combination of cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, positioning it as a noteworthy destination in the region's tourism sector. With 20.3 million Chinese travelers going abroad annually, a segment of this demographic may find Panama appealing for their travels.
Panama's safety for tourists coming from China can be assessed through various indices and crime statistics. According to the Global Peace Index, Panama ranks 94th out of 160 countries, which is lower than China's ranking of 87th. In terms of murder rates, Panama has a significantly higher rate at 12.7 per 100,000 people, compared to China's 0.5. Female murder rates in Panama are also notable at 2.0, while data for China is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index provides further insights, with both countries scoring similarly in some areas. For instance, Panama's indices for mafia groups and crime networks are slightly worse than China's. However, Panama scores higher in terms of human trafficking and cocaine trade, indicating specific areas of concern for safety. Overall, while Panama offers a rich cultural experience, tourists should remain aware of the higher crime rates and take necessary precautions.
