New Zealand offers captivating natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage, making it an appealing destination for some South Africans. Despite fluctuations in foreign tourist numbers, the spending patterns indicate significant opportunities within the tourism sector. This suggests that a portion of South Africa's 60 million population may find New Zealand an attractive travel option.
New Zealand is considered one of the safest countries for tourists, ranking 4th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, significantly safer than South Africa, which ranks 125th. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, New Zealand has a murder rate of 2.6 per 100,000 people, compared to South Africa's rate of 41.9. In terms of organized crime, New Zealand scores better across various categories, with lower indices indicating less organized crime activity. For example, New Zealand's score for mafia groups is 4.5, while South Africa's is 7.0. Overall, tourists from South Africa can expect a much safer environment in New Zealand.
