New Zealand offers captivating natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage, making it an appealing destination for Australian visitors. Although foreign tourist numbers have varied, spending trends indicate significant opportunities in the tourism sector. With around 300,000 Australians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to consider New Zealand as a travel option.
New Zealand is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Australia. According to the Global Peace Index, New Zealand ranks 4th out of 160 countries, making it one of the safest countries in the world, while Australia ranks 19th. In terms of crime statistics, New Zealand has a higher murder rate at 2.6 per 100,000 people compared to Australia's 0.7. However, when looking at organized crime indices, New Zealand scores better in several categories, such as crime networks (3.5 for New Zealand vs. 6.0 for Australia) and state crime (1.5 for New Zealand vs. 2.0 for Australia). Overall, while New Zealand has some higher crime rates in specific areas, it remains a safe and welcoming place for tourists.
