Nepal boasts a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural scenery, making it an appealing destination for some Portuguese travelers. While the country has faced challenges in attracting a steady flow of international visitors, a portion of the 1 million Portuguese who travel abroad annually may find Nepal intriguing.
Nepal is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Portugal. According to the Global Peace Index, Nepal ranks 78th out of 160 countries, while Portugal ranks significantly higher at 7th. In terms of crime statistics, Portugal has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Nepal's rate of 2.1. While both countries have similar scores for mafia presence (4.5), Nepal scores higher in areas like state crime (8.5) and foreign crime (7.0), indicating some concerns in these areas. Overall, while Nepal is not as safe as Portugal, it can still be a safe place for tourists if they take standard precautions.
