Head of mission: Mr. Casper Frederik De Stoppelaar, Honorary Consul General (as of 2010)
Nepal is an appealing destination for some Dutch travelers due to its rich culture and stunning natural scenery. While the country faces challenges in attracting a consistent flow of international visitors, a portion of the 22.1 million Dutch who travel abroad annually may find Nepal intriguing.
Nepal is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from the Netherlands. According to the Global Peace Index, Nepal ranks 78th out of 160 countries, while the Netherlands ranks 18th, indicating that the Netherlands is safer overall. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Nepal is 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to just 0.7 in the Netherlands. Additionally, while both countries have a similar score for mafia groups (4.5), Nepal scores higher on various crime indices, indicating more challenges with organized crime and state-related issues. Overall, while tourists can visit Nepal safely, they should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions, as safety levels differ from those in the Netherlands.
