1 mission of Netherlands in Tonga: Consulate of the Netherlands in Nuku'alofa, Tonga. Addresses, phones and contacts.
Head of mission: Mrs. Tania Tupou, Honorary Consul (confirmed in the diplomatic list of Netherlands, 6 Dec 2024)
The Netherlands is an appealing destination for some Tongans, offering a unique mix of urban sophistication and rural charm, characterized by its canals, tulip fields, windmills, and historic cities. Its popularity on the international tourism scene suggests it could attract a portion of the Tongan population.
The Netherlands is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Tonga. It ranks 9th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, and 18th out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in the Netherlands is significantly lower than in Tonga, with 0.7 per 100,000 people compared to Tonga's 2.9. While both countries have their own crime challenges, the Netherlands has a more developed framework for addressing organized crime, although it does face issues such as drug trafficking. Overall, tourists from Tonga can feel relatively safe in the Netherlands, but should always remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, as they would in any foreign country.
