The Netherlands is an appealing destination for some Norwegian travelers, thanks to its picturesque canals, tulip fields, windmills, and historic cities. With 1.7 million Norwegians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may find the country's mix of urban sophistication and rustic charm particularly attractive.
The Netherlands is considered one of the safest countries in Europe for tourists, including those coming from Norway. It ranks 9th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is higher than Norway's 18th position. According to the Global Peace Index, the Netherlands ranks 18th out of 160 countries, again safer than Norway, which is ranked 28th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Norway is slightly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people compared to the Netherlands at 0.7. However, the Netherlands has a lower female murder rate at 0.4 compared to Norway's 0.6. When examining organized crime, both countries have similar scores for mafia groups (4.5), but the Netherlands scores higher in crime networks (6.0) and lower in state crime (2.5). Overall, while both countries are relatively safe, the Netherlands offers a secure environment for tourists, with some crime rates being slightly higher than in Norway.
