The Netherlands is an appealing destination for some Croatian visitors, thanks to its famous canals, tulip fields, windmills, and historic cities. Each year, around 600,000 Croats travel abroad, and a portion of them may find the Netherlands an attractive option due to its unique blend of urban sophistication and rustic charm.
The Netherlands is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Croatia. It ranks 9th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, though it is slightly less safe than Croatia, which holds the top position. According to the Global Peace Index, the Netherlands is ranked 18th out of 160 countries, comparable to Croatia's 15th place. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in the Netherlands is 0.7 per 100,000 people, slightly lower than Croatia's 0.8. Female murder rates also favor the Netherlands at 0.4 compared to Croatia's 0.7. Regarding organized crime, both countries have similar indices, with Croatia scoring slightly better in some areas. However, the Netherlands shows a stronger performance in state crime and certain trafficking categories. Overall, while both countries are safe, Croatia is currently ranked as the safest in Europe, but the Netherlands remains a secure option for tourists.
