The Netherlands is an appealing destination for some Fijian travelers, thanks to its famous canals, tulip fields, windmills, and historic cities. With around 200,000 Fijians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find the country's mix of urban sophistication and rustic charm attractive.
The Netherlands is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Fiji. It ranks 9th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, and 18th among 160 countries globally according to the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in the Netherlands is significantly lower than in Fiji, with 0.7 per 100,000 people compared to Fiji's 2.2. Additionally, the Netherlands has lower rates of female murders (0.4 in the Netherlands vs. 2.8 in Fiji). When looking at organized crime, Fiji scores better in some areas, such as mafia presence (1.0 for Fiji vs. 4.5 for the Netherlands), but the Netherlands has lower indices for state crime (2.5 vs. 3.0 for Fiji) and foreign crime (4.5 vs. 5.5 for Fiji). Overall, while both countries have their challenges, the Netherlands is considered a safe and welcoming place for tourists.
