Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse country with a rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes, making it an intriguing option for some Ukrainian travelers. While it currently experiences moderate tourist arrivals, the potential exists for a segment of the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually to consider Nigeria as a destination.
Nigeria's safety for tourists, including those from Ukraine, presents a mixed picture. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, which is better than Ukraine's 156th position. However, the murder rate in Nigeria is significantly higher at 22.0 per 100,000 people compared to Ukraine's 3.8. In terms of organized crime, Nigeria has a slightly better score for mafia groups (5.5) compared to Ukraine (6.0), but higher scores for crime networks (9.0 vs. 7.0) and state crime (7.5 vs. 8.0). Both countries face challenges with human trafficking and smuggling, with Nigeria scoring 7.5 and 6.0 respectively, while Ukraine scores 7.0 and 6.5. Overall, while Nigeria may be relatively safer than Ukraine in some aspects, it still has significant safety concerns that potential tourists should consider.
