Nigeria is an intriguing destination for Tanzanian visitors, offering a rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes. However, it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists, suggesting that it may appeal to only a segment of Tanzania's 65 million population.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Tanzania. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Tanzania, which ranks 63rd. In terms of crime statistics, Nigeria has a higher murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Tanzania's 3.7. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that Nigeria faces more challenges with organized crime, scoring worse in various categories such as crime networks (Nigeria 9.0 vs. Tanzania 7.0) and arms trafficking (Nigeria 8.0 vs. Tanzania 5.5). While many tourists visit Nigeria without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Tanzania to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions and safety recommendations.
