Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse nation that offers a rich cultural experience and beautiful natural landscapes. However, it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists. It could be an appealing destination for some of the 2 million people in Trinidad and Tobago.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists from Trinidad and Tobago. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria is ranked 144th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower level of safety compared to Trinidad and Tobago, which ranks 85th. In terms of murder rates, Trinidad and Tobago has a rate of 29.4 per 100,000 people, while Nigeria's rate is lower at 22.0. However, the overall crime environment in Nigeria is more challenging, as reflected in the Global Organized Crime Index. For instance, Nigeria scores higher in crime networks (9.0) and state crime (7.5) compared to Trinidad and Tobago (5.0 in both categories). While Nigeria has a lower murder rate, the broader context of organized crime and safety issues suggests that tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions when considering travel to Nigeria.
