Nigeria is an appealing destination for some Togolese visitors due to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. Although the country experiences moderate tourist traffic overall, there are approximately 300,000 Togolese who travel abroad annually, and a portion of them may choose to explore Nigeria.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Togo. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, while Togo is ranked 118th. The murder rate in Nigeria is notably high at 22.0 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, Nigeria scores higher on various indices compared to Togo, indicating a more significant presence of crime networks and mafia groups. For instance, Nigeria has a mafia group index of 5.5, while Togo scores 1.0. Additionally, Nigeria scores 9.0 for crime networks, compared to Togo's 7.0. Overall, while many tourists visit Nigeria without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Togo to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
