Nigeria offers a unique blend of vibrant culture and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Romanian travelers. While it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists, a portion of the 11.6 million Romanians who travel abroad annually may find Nigeria appealing.
Nigeria poses significant safety concerns for tourists, including those from Romania. While Romania ranks 36th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, Nigeria is ranked 144th out of 160 countries, with a much higher murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Nigeria has higher levels of organized crime and violence compared to Romania. For example, Nigeria scores worse in categories such as crime networks (9.0) and state crime (7.5), compared to Romania's scores of 5.0 and 3.5, respectively. Overall, tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about the local situation when considering travel to Nigeria.
