Nigeria offers a vibrant and diverse experience, showcasing rich culture and beautiful landscapes. While it attracts a moderate number of tourists overall, it could appeal to some of the 1 million Portuguese travelers who venture abroad annually.
Nigeria presents significant safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Portugal. While Portugal ranks 7th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, with a much higher murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people. Crime statistics indicate that Nigeria faces challenges such as organized crime and human trafficking, with higher indices in these areas compared to Portugal. For instance, Nigeria scores 9.0 for crime networks and 7.5 for human trafficking, while Portugal scores 6.0 and 4.5, respectively. Overall, tourists from Portugal should exercise caution and stay informed about safety conditions when considering travel to Nigeria.
