Nigeria offers a vibrant and diverse experience for visitors, showcasing rich culture and beautiful landscapes. However, it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists. It could appeal to a segment of Gabon's 2 million population, making it an interesting destination for some.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Gabon. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, while Gabon is ranked 116th. In terms of crime statistics, Nigeria has a murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people, whereas Gabon's rate is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Nigeria faces significant challenges with organized crime, scoring higher than Gabon in several categories. For instance, Nigeria's scores include 5.5 for mafia groups, 9.0 for crime networks, and 7.5 for human trafficking, compared to Gabon's scores of 1.0, 5.0, and 5.5 respectively. Overall, while tourism is possible in Nigeria, travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions and safety measures.
