Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse nation with a rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes, making it an intriguing option for some German travelers. Although it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists, among the 99.5 million Germans who travel abroad annually, there is potential interest in visiting Nigeria.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Germany. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, while Germany is significantly safer at 20th. The murder rate in Nigeria is notably higher, at 22.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Germany's 0.8. Additionally, crime indices from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate that Nigeria faces challenges with organized crime, scoring worse in several categories, such as crime networks (9.0 for Nigeria vs. 6.5 for Germany) and state crime (7.5 vs. 2.0). While many tourists do visit Nigeria and have positive experiences, it is essential for travelers from Germany to stay informed about safety conditions, exercise caution, and take necessary precautions when planning their visit.
