Niger presents a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty, making it an appealing option for some Cameroonians. While it ranks lower in tourist arrivals and revenue, its rich history and pristine landscapes suggest significant untapped potential for visitors.
Niger is generally considered to be as safe for tourists as Cameroon, with both countries ranked similarly on the Global Peace Index—Niger at 139th and Cameroon at 135th out of 160 countries. The murder rates are also comparable, with Cameroon at 4.5 per 100,000 people and Niger at 4.4. In terms of organized crime, both countries have similar scores, with Cameroon and Niger both rated 4.0 for mafia groups. However, Niger has slightly lower scores for crime networks (7.0) compared to Cameroon (7.5), indicating a marginally better situation in Niger. While both countries face challenges related to state crime and human trafficking, the overall crime indices suggest that tourists should exercise caution in both locations. It is advisable for travelers to stay informed about local conditions and follow safety recommendations.
