Mozambique offers a unique appeal for Ugandan visitors, featuring beautiful coastlines along the Indian Ocean and a rich cultural heritage. While it attracts a relatively small number of international tourists annually, its blend of natural beauty and cultural vibrancy is increasingly attractive. This makes it a potentially appealing destination for a segment of Uganda's 47 million population.
Mozambique is relatively safe for tourists from Uganda. According to the Global Peace Index, Mozambique ranks 106th out of 160 countries, which is better than Uganda's ranking of 124th. The murder rate in Mozambique is significantly lower at 3.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Uganda's 8.5. While both countries face challenges with organized crime, Mozambique generally has lower scores in categories such as human trafficking (4.0) compared to Uganda (7.0). However, it does have higher scores in state crime (9.0) and some environmental crimes. Overall, while travelers should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions, Mozambique presents a safer option than Uganda based on these statistics.
