Mozambique offers a compelling destination for some visitors from Eswatini, thanks to its beautiful coastlines along the Indian Ocean and a rich blend of culture and natural attractions. While it attracts a modest number of international tourists, its appeal is growing. With around 300,000 Swazis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mozambique an enticing option for their travels.
Mozambique is generally considered to be as safe for tourists as Eswatini, with both countries ranked similarly in the Global Peace Index (Mozambique at 106th and Eswatini at 101st out of 160 countries). In terms of crime statistics, Mozambique has a lower murder rate of 3.5 per 100,000 people compared to Eswatini's 12.7. However, when looking at organized crime indices, Mozambique scores higher in several categories, indicating a greater prevalence of crime networks and state crime. Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Mozambique's lower murder rate suggests a relatively safer environment for tourists. Visitors should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions, as is advisable in any travel situation.
