Mozambique offers an appealing destination for some Mauritian travelers due to its beautiful coastlines along the Indian Ocean and its rich cultural and natural attractions. Although it attracts a modest number of foreign visitors annually, its unique blend of natural beauty and cultural vibrancy is increasingly recognized. With around 100,000 Mauritians traveling abroad each year, a portion may find Mozambique an interesting option to explore.
Mozambique presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Mauritius. According to the Global Peace Index, Mozambique ranks 106th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Mauritius, which ranks 22nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Mozambique is 3.5 per 100,000 people, compared to 2.6 in Mauritius. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Mozambique faces challenges with organized crime, scoring higher in various categories such as crime networks (8.0) and state crime (9.0), while Mauritius scores more favorably (6.0 and 6.0, respectively). Overall, while Mozambique has beautiful attractions, tourists from Mauritius should remain vigilant and informed about the safety landscape before traveling.
