Malaysia offers a unique mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it an appealing destination for some of Syria's 21 million residents. Although international visitor numbers are currently modest, ongoing infrastructure improvements and a variety of attractions suggest strong potential for future growth in tourism.
Malaysia is considered one of the safest countries for tourists, ranked 10th out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index, significantly safer than Syria, which ranks 153rd. The murder rate in Malaysia is 0.7 per 100,000 people, compared to Syria's 2.2. In terms of organized crime, both countries have a mafia index of 4.5, but Malaysia generally fares better in various crime categories. For instance, Malaysia has lower indices for crime networks (5.5 vs. Syria's 9.0), state crime (6.0 vs. 10.0), and human trafficking (6.5 vs. 8.5). Overall, Malaysia presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Syria.
