Malaysia offers a compelling mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage, positioning it as an emerging destination for travelers. Although international visitor numbers are currently modest, ongoing infrastructure improvements and a variety of attractions suggest strong growth potential. With 7.3 million Mexicans traveling abroad annually, there is a notable opportunity for Malaysia to attract a segment of these travelers.
Malaysia is considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Mexico. According to the Global Peace Index, Malaysia ranks 10th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Mexico, which ranks 136th. In terms of crime statistics, Malaysia has a murder rate of 0.7 per 100,000 people, compared to Mexico's much higher rate of 28.2. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights the relative safety, with Malaysia scoring better in various crime categories, such as mafia groups (4.5 vs. 9.0 for Mexico) and drug trafficking (5.0 for cannabis and cocaine vs. 8.0 and 9.0 for Mexico, respectively). Overall, tourists from Mexico can feel relatively secure when visiting Malaysia, given its lower crime rates and better safety rankings.
