Malaysia offers a compelling mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage, positioning it as an appealing destination for Belgian travelers. Although current visitor numbers are relatively low, ongoing improvements in infrastructure and a variety of attractions indicate strong potential for growth. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a segment of this population may find Malaysia an intriguing option.
Malaysia is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Belgium. According to the Global Peace Index, Malaysia ranks 10th out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of safety, while Belgium ranks 16th. Additionally, Malaysia has a lower murder rate of 0.7 per 100,000 people compared to Belgium's 1.1. However, crime statistics suggest some differences in organized crime and safety perceptions. For example, Malaysia has higher indices for state crime and human trafficking compared to Belgium. Overall, while there are some concerns, Malaysia is viewed as a safer destination relative to Belgium, particularly in terms of violent crime. Tourists should still exercise standard precautions while traveling.
