Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its diverse tourism sector caters to various traveler preferences, enhancing its status as a popular global hotspot. A portion of the 10.4 million Thais who travel abroad annually may find Mexico to be an intriguing option.
Mexico presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Thailand. According to the Global Peace Index, Mexico ranks 136th out of 160 countries, while Thailand is significantly safer at 73rd. The murder rate in Mexico is notably higher, at 28.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Thailand's 4.9. Additionally, female murder rates are also concerning, with Mexico at 6.2 and Thailand at 1.2. In terms of organized crime, Mexico faces greater challenges, with indices indicating severe issues: mafia groups (Mexico 9.0 vs. Thailand 1.5), crime networks (Mexico 9.0 vs. Thailand 5.0), and drug trafficking (Mexico 9.0 for cocaine vs. Thailand 4.0). While many tourists visit Mexico without incident, it is essential for travelers from Thailand to remain vigilant, stay informed about local conditions, and take necessary precautions while traveling in Mexico.
