Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its diverse tourism sector accommodates various traveler preferences, solidifying its status as a top global tourist hotspot. Given that around 600,000 Peruvians travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Mexico an attractive option for their travels.
Mexico is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Peru. According to the Global Peace Index, Mexico ranks 136th out of 160 countries, while Peru ranks 97th. The murder rate in Mexico is significantly higher at 28.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Peru's 5.7. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Mexico (6.2) than in Peru (2.1). In terms of organized crime, Mexico faces greater challenges, with a mafia group index of 9.0 compared to Peru's 6.0. Other crime indices, such as human trafficking and arms trafficking, also indicate higher risks in Mexico. Overall, while tourism in Mexico is possible, it is advisable for travelers from Peru to remain vigilant and informed about safety precautions.
