Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its diverse tourism sector caters to various traveler preferences, solidifying its status as a top global tourist hotspot. Among the 1.2 million Nepalese who travel abroad annually, a segment may find Mexico to be an intriguing option.
Mexico's safety for tourists, including those from Nepal, is a concern. According to the Global Peace Index, Mexico ranks 136th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Nepal, which ranks 78th. The murder rate in Mexico is notably higher at 28.2 per 100,000 people compared to Nepal's 2.1. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Mexico faces severe challenges with organized crime, scoring 9.0 for mafia groups and crime networks, while Nepal scores 4.5 and 6.5, respectively. Other areas of concern for Mexico include high scores in human smuggling (8.5) and drug trafficking, particularly cocaine (9.0) and synthetic drugs (9.0). While many tourists visit Mexico without incident, it's essential for travelers to stay informed, exercise caution, and be aware of the local conditions.
