Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its diverse tourism sector caters to various traveler preferences, solidifying its status as a top global tourist destination. This may attract a segment of North Macedonia's population of approximately 2 million.
Mexico presents significant safety concerns for tourists, including those from North Macedonia. While North Macedonia ranks 38th in safety according to the Global Peace Index, Mexico is much lower at 136th out of 160 countries. Crime statistics highlight stark differences: North Macedonia has a murder rate of 1.2 per 100,000 people, whereas Mexico's rate is alarmingly high at 28.2. Additionally, the rates of female murders are 0.4 in North Macedonia compared to 6.2 in Mexico. The Global Organized Crime Index also illustrates the disparity, with Mexico scoring poorly in various categories such as mafia groups (9.0) and crime networks (9.0), compared to North Macedonia's better scores (4.0 and 6.5, respectively). Overall, while North Macedonia is considered relatively safe, Mexico poses considerable risks for tourists, and travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about their destinations.
