Mexico is an appealing destination for many international tourists due to its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes. It offers a variety of leisure, adventure, and wellness experiences, making it a top global tourist hotspot. Given that 3.8 million Georgians travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Mexico to be an interesting travel option.
Mexico's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Georgia, is a concern based on various crime statistics. According to the Global Peace Index, Mexico ranks 136th out of 160 countries, while Georgia ranks 98th, indicating that Mexico is generally less safe. In terms of murder rates, Mexico has a significantly higher rate at 28.2 per 100,000 people compared to Georgia's 1.9. The rates for female murders also reflect this disparity, with Mexico at 6.2 and Georgia at 1.2. The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the differences, with Mexico scoring poorly across various crime categories, such as mafia groups (Mexico: 9.0, Georgia: 2.5) and drug trafficking (cocaine trade: Mexico: 9.0, Georgia: 2.0). Overall, while many tourists visit Mexico safely, it is essential for travelers from Georgia to remain vigilant and informed about the risks involved.
