Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its diverse tourism sector caters to various traveler preferences, solidifying its status as a popular global hotspot. Given that around 200,000 Fijians travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Mexico to be an intriguing option for their travels.
Mexico's safety for tourists, including those from Fiji, is a concern due to its higher crime rates. The Global Peace Index ranks Mexico 136th out of 160 countries, indicating significant safety challenges. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Mexico has a murder rate of 28.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Fiji's much lower rate of 2.2. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Mexico faces severe issues with organized crime, scoring 9.0 for mafia groups and crime networks, whereas Fiji scores significantly better at 1.0 and 6.5, respectively. Overall, while many tourists visit Mexico safely, it is essential for travelers from Fiji to remain vigilant and informed about the local situation and to take necessary precautions when visiting.
