While it may attract a segment of Brunei's population, which numbers around 0 million, its overall appeal is noteworthy.
Mexico's safety for tourists, including those from Brunei, is a concern due to its high crime rates. The Global Peace Index ranks Mexico 136th out of 160 countries, indicating significant safety challenges. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Mexico has a murder rate of 28.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Brunei's very low rate of 0.5. Additionally, female murder rates in Mexico are 6.2 per 100,000, while Brunei's is 1.2. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights serious issues in Mexico, with high scores indicating severe organized crime challenges: mafia groups (9.0), crime networks (9.0), and human trafficking (7.5). In contrast, Brunei scores much lower (1.0 for mafia groups, 2.5 for crime networks). Overall, while many tourists visit Mexico without incident, it is essential for travelers from Brunei to remain vigilant and informed about local safety conditions.
