Malawi offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Mozambicans. Despite its modest tourism infrastructure, the country's scenic landscapes and warm hospitality attract a growing number of international visitors each year.
Malawi is generally considered a safer destination for tourists compared to Mozambique. According to the Global Peace Index, Malawi ranks 77th out of 160 countries, while Mozambique is ranked 106th. The murder rate in Malawi is 1.8 per 100,000 people, significantly lower than Mozambique's rate of 3.5. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that Malawi has lower levels of organized crime compared to Mozambique, with indices reflecting less activity in areas such as mafia groups (Malawi 2.0 vs. Mozambique 3.5) and crime networks (Malawi 3.0 vs. Mozambique 8.0). Overall, while no destination is without risk, tourists coming from Mozambique can expect a relatively safer environment in Malawi.
