Mauritius offers a unique appeal for Tunisian travelers, featuring beautiful beaches, lush scenery, and a rich cultural experience. With around 700,000 Tunisians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mauritius an attractive destination for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Tunisia. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, indicating a higher level of safety compared to Tunisia, which ranks 72nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Mauritius is 2.6 per 100,000 people, significantly lower than Tunisia's rate of 4.8. Female murder rates are also comparable, with Mauritius at 1.8 and Tunisia at 1.9. The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights differences in safety, with Mauritius scoring better in several areas, such as arms trafficking (Mauritius 2.0 vs. Tunisia 5.0) and mafia presence (Mauritius 2.0 vs. Tunisia 1.0). However, Mauritius faces challenges with drug-related crimes, particularly in heroin and synthetic drugs. Overall, tourists from Tunisia can feel relatively safe visiting Mauritius, though it's advisable to remain aware of local conditions and exercise standard travel precautions.
