Mauritius is an appealing destination for some Seychellois travelers, thanks to its stunning beaches, lush scenery, and rich culture. With around 100,000 Seychellois traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mauritius an attractive option for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Seychelles. The country ranks 22nd out of 160 in the Global Peace Index, indicating a relatively peaceful environment. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Mauritius is lower at 2.6 per 100,000 people compared to Seychelles, which has a rate of 4.7. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Mauritius (1.8) than in Seychelles (5.4). However, some organized crime indices indicate that both countries face challenges. For instance, while both have a mafia group index of 2.0 (best), Mauritius scores higher on crime networks (6.0) and state crime (6.0) compared to Seychelles (4.5 for both). Overall, while there are some crime concerns, Mauritius remains a popular tourist destination with a relatively low crime rate, making it safe for visitors from Seychelles.
