Mauritius is an appealing destination for some Hungarian travelers, thanks to its stunning beaches, lush scenery, and rich cultural diversity. With 4.4 million Hungarians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may find Mauritius an attractive option for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Hungary. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively peaceful environment. However, it has a higher murder rate (2.6 per 100,000 people) compared to Hungary (0.8 per 100,000 people), which suggests some safety concerns. In terms of organized crime, Hungary scores better across several indices, with lower ratings in areas such as mafia presence and crime networks. For example, Hungary has a mafia group index of 1.0, while Mauritius has a score of 2.0. Overall, while Mauritius is not as safe as Hungary, it remains a popular tourist destination with a generally low crime rate compared to many other countries. Travelers are advised to take standard safety precautions while visiting.
