Mauritius offers a unique appeal for Greek travelers, featuring stunning beaches, lush scenery, and a rich cultural experience. With 2.0 million Greeks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mauritius an enticing destination for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Greece. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, indicating a higher level of safety compared to Greece, which ranks 40th. While Greece has a lower murder rate (0.9 per 100,000) compared to Mauritius (2.6 per 100,000), the overall safety perception in Mauritius is positive. In terms of organized crime, Mauritius scores better in several categories, with a mafia group index of 2.0 compared to Greece's 3.0, and lower scores in state crime and foreign crime. However, Mauritius does have higher indices for heroin and synthetic drug trade. Overall, while both countries have their safety concerns, Mauritius is perceived as a safer destination for tourists than Greece based on the Global Peace Index and organized crime statistics.
