Mauritius is an appealing destination for some travelers from Cyprus due to its stunning beaches, lush scenery, and rich cultural diversity. With around 500,000 Cypriots traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mauritius an attractive option for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Cyprus. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety, especially when compared to Cyprus, which ranks 86th. While there are no specific crime statistics for Mauritius regarding safety while walking alone at night, it is important to note that the country has a higher murder rate (2.6 per 100,000) compared to Cyprus (1.3 per 100,000). However, various organized crime indices suggest that Mauritius has a lower presence of mafia groups and certain types of organized crime compared to Cyprus. Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Mauritius is viewed as a safer option for tourists when considering broader safety rankings. Visitors should always exercise standard precautions, as they would in any travel situation.
