Mauritius is an appealing destination for some Austrian travelers, thanks to its beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, and rich cultural diversity. With 7.5 million Austrians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may be drawn to explore what Mauritius has to offer.
Mauritius is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Austria. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively safe environment, although it is not as safe as Austria, which ranks 3rd. In terms of crime statistics, Austria has a lower murder rate of 0.7 per 100,000 people compared to Mauritius's 2.6. Additionally, while both countries have similar scores for mafia presence (2.0), Mauritius faces higher challenges with organized crime, reflected in its higher indices for crime networks (6.0) and state crime (6.0) compared to Austria. Overall, while tourists should remain vigilant as they would anywhere, Mauritius is a popular destination known for its hospitality and natural beauty.
