Malta is an appealing destination for some Lithuanian travelers due to its rich history, culture, and strategic Mediterranean location. With around 700,000 Lithuanians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Malta's historical sites and contemporary tourism offerings attractive.
Malta is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Lithuania. It ranks 26th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, similar to Lithuania, which is ranked 24th. In terms of crime statistics, Malta has a significantly lower murder rate at 0.4 per 100,000 people compared to Lithuania's 2.6. Additionally, there are no recorded female murders in Malta, while Lithuania has a rate of 1.5. When looking at organized crime, Malta scores better in terms of mafia presence (1.5 vs. Lithuania's 3.5) but has higher scores for crime networks and state crime. Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Malta is relatively safe for Lithuanian tourists.
