Malta offers a compelling mix of history, culture, and modern tourism, making it an appealing destination for some Kenyans. Its strategic Mediterranean location and numerous historical sites attract around one million international visitors annually, suggesting that it could be an interesting choice for a segment of Kenya's 54 million population.
Malta is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Kenya. It ranks 26th out of 40 European countries for safety when walking alone at night. In contrast, Kenya ranks 120th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating higher levels of violence and crime. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Malta has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people compared to Kenya's 5.3. Additionally, Malta scores better in various organized crime indices, with lower ratings for mafia presence, arms trafficking, and other criminal activities. While no specific safety data for Kenya in Malta exists, the overall crime and safety statistics suggest that tourists from Kenya can feel relatively secure while visiting Malta.
