Malta is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from the Dominican Republic. According to safety rankings, Malta is positioned 26th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. In contrast, the Dominican Republic ranks 95th among 160 countries in the Global Peace Index, indicating higher levels of violence and crime. Crime statistics further illustrate this disparity: Malta has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people, compared to the Dominican Republic's rate of 10.5. Additionally, Malta reports no female murders, while the Dominican Republic has a rate of 2.6. In terms of organized crime, Malta scores better in various categories, with lower indices indicating less mafia presence and organized crime activity compared to the Dominican Republic. For instance, the mafia group index is 1.5 for Malta versus 5.0 for the Dominican Republic. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Malta is considered safer for tourists compared to the Dominican Republic based on these statistics.
