Mauritania in Ukraine

Citizens of Ukraine can get a visa on arrival in Mauritania. Check the rules with the embassy of Mauritania before travelling.

Mauritania offers a unique blend of desert landscapes and rich history, making it an intriguing destination for some Ukrainian travelers. While its tourism sector is relatively small on the global scale, there is potential interest among the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually.

Mauritania is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Ukraine. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritania ranks 93rd out of 160 countries, while Ukraine is ranked 156th. The murder rate in Mauritania is significantly lower at 1.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Ukraine's 3.8.

In terms of organized crime, Mauritania scores better on several indices: mafia groups (2.5 vs. 6.0), crime networks (4.5 vs. 7.0), and arms trafficking (4.0 vs. 8.0). However, both countries face challenges with state crime and human trafficking, with Mauritania scoring slightly worse in those areas.

Overall, while Mauritania has its own security concerns, it is statistically safer for tourists than Ukraine.
