Myanmar offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Vietnamese travelers. The country's growing tourism sector contributes to its economy, enhancing its attractiveness as a travel choice for a segment of Vietnam's 98 million population.
Myanmar is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Vietnam. According to the Global Peace Index, Myanmar ranks 145th out of 160 countries, while Vietnam ranks 41st. The murder rate in Myanmar is significantly higher at 28.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Vietnam's 1.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Myanmar faces greater challenges with organized crime, scoring worse in various categories such as mafia groups (Myanmar 9.0 vs. Vietnam 6.0) and drug trafficking (heroin trade: Myanmar 9.5 vs. Vietnam 7.0). Overall, while tourism is possible in Myanmar, visitors should exercise caution and stay informed about the local situation.
