Myanmar offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some travelers from Panama. With around 400,000 Panamanians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Myanmar's unique tourism opportunities attractive. The country's growing tourism sector also contributes positively to its economy, enhancing its appeal on the international stage.
Myanmar's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Panama, is a concern. The Global Peace Index ranks Myanmar 145th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Panama, which ranks 94th. In terms of crime statistics, Myanmar has a higher murder rate at 28.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Panama's 12.7. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Myanmar at 7.3 and Panama at 2.0. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Myanmar faces significant challenges with organized crime, scoring worse than Panama in several categories, including mafia groups (Myanmar 9.0 vs. Panama 7.5) and the heroin trade (Myanmar 9.5 vs. Panama 5.0). Overall, tourists from Panama should exercise caution when considering travel to Myanmar, as it presents a higher risk in terms of safety and crime.
