Head of mission: Mr. Elie J. Debahy, Honorary Consul (as of 2010)
Myanmar offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Lebanese travelers. With a growing tourism sector that contributes to its economy, it holds potential as a unique travel option for a segment of Lebanon's 6 million population.
Myanmar is currently considered less safe for tourists compared to Lebanon. According to the Global Peace Index, Myanmar ranks 145th out of 160 countries, while Lebanon is ranked 132nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Myanmar is significantly higher at 28.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Lebanon's rate of 1.9. Female murder rates also reflect this disparity, with Myanmar at 7.3 and Lebanon at 1.0. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Myanmar faces more severe organized crime challenges, with higher scores in various categories such as mafia groups (Myanmar 9.0 vs. Lebanon 6.0) and the heroin trade (Myanmar 9.5 vs. Lebanon 4.0). Overall, while travel can be undertaken with caution, tourists from Lebanon should be aware of the safety concerns in Myanmar.
