Mali offers a unique blend of history and culture that can attract adventurous travelers, including some from South Korea. While it receives a relatively small number of annual visitors, those who do come tend to spend significantly, engaging deeply with the local culture, landscapes, and traditions. Given that approximately 4.3 million South Koreans travel abroad each year, there is potential interest among a segment of them in exploring Mali as a travel destination.
Mali is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to South Korea. According to the Global Peace Index, Mali ranks 151st out of 160 countries, while South Korea is ranked 45th. Although specific murder rates for Mali are not available, South Korea has a low murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, Mali scores higher on various indices, indicating greater challenges. For example, Mali has a state crime index of 8.5 (with 10 being the worst), compared to South Korea's 4.5. Other areas, such as crime networks and arms trafficking, also show Mali facing more significant issues than South Korea. Overall, tourists from South Korea should exercise caution and stay informed about the local situation if considering travel to Mali.
