Madagascar is an appealing destination for some of Senegal's 17 million residents, thanks to its rich biodiversity and unique cultural heritage. Although it ranks modestly in global tourism, recent trends indicate growing interest in this Indian Ocean island.
Madagascar is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Senegal. According to the Global Peace Index, Madagascar ranks 43rd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively safe environment, especially when compared to Senegal, which ranks 82nd. While specific murder rates for Madagascar are not available, Senegal has a low murder rate of 0.3 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, Madagascar has some challenges, with a state crime index of 7.5 and a foreign crime index of 7.0, compared to Senegal's lower indices. However, overall, Madagascar presents a safer option for tourists than Senegal based on these rankings. Travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard precautions, as in any destination.
