Morocco is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from South Africa. According to the Global Peace Index, Morocco ranks 76th out of 160 countries, which is significantly safer than South Africa, ranked 125th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Morocco is notably low at 1.9 per 100,000 people, compared to South Africa's high rate of 41.9. Additionally, female murder rates are 0.5 in Morocco versus 9.5 in South Africa. The Global Organized Crime Index also reflects this disparity, with Morocco scoring better in various categories related to organized crime. For instance, mafia groups and crime networks score 1.0 and 6.5 respectively in Morocco, while both categories score 7.0 in South Africa. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Morocco presents a safer environment for tourists compared to South Africa.
