Morocco is an appealing destination for some Sri Lankan travelers due to its rich culture, historical cities, and stunning landscapes. With around 300,000 Sri Lankans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Morocco's unique charm and heritage worth exploring.
Morocco is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Sri Lanka. According to the Global Peace Index, Morocco ranks 76th out of 160 countries, making it safer than Sri Lanka, which ranks 99th. In terms of crime statistics, Morocco has a lower murder rate of 1.9 per 100,000 people compared to Sri Lanka's rate of 3.5. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Morocco at 0.5 and Sri Lanka at 2.2. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Morocco has lower scores in several categories compared to Sri Lanka, particularly in mafia groups (Morocco 1.0 vs. Sri Lanka 4.0) and arms trafficking (Morocco 3.0 vs. Sri Lanka 5.0). However, both countries face challenges with crime networks and state crime, which are rated similarly. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Morocco presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Sri Lanka based on the available data.
