Libya offers a unique appeal for Turkish visitors, featuring diverse landscapes and rich historical sites along its Mediterranean coastline. While the tourism infrastructure is still developing, it presents an intriguing option for some of the 2.7 million Turks who travel abroad annually.
Libya's safety for tourists, including those from Türkiye, presents some concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Libya ranks 126th out of 160 countries, while Türkiye ranks 137th, indicating that Libya is statistically safer. However, there is limited data available regarding specific crime rates in Libya, particularly for murder rates. In terms of organized crime, both Türkiye and Libya have similar indices, with significant challenges in areas like human trafficking and arms trafficking. Türkiye has a murder rate of 2.5 per 100,000 people, while data for Libya is not available. Overall, while Libya may be ranked slightly safer than Türkiye in the Global Peace Index, the lack of comprehensive crime data and the presence of organized crime suggest that caution is advised for tourists considering travel to Libya.
